fitted for the Colony. Mr. Mitchell-Innes' removal to another Colony would cause universal sorrow.

Some men have abilities and some have not. Mr. Mitchell-Innes may not be qualified to hold the post of Treasurer but he has shown aptitude in governing the people and there may be perhaps a post in the Colony to which he might be transferred.

Petitioners have long received kindness and protection from Mr. Mitchell-Innes and cannot consider with composure the prospect of his being removed elsewhere. They have therefore expressly made known their feelings on the subject and it is their earnest prayer that the feeling of the community may be considered and that he may be graciously retained in his present post.

They therefore hasten to approach His Excellency the Governor with their petition and pray that it may be forwarded to the Secretary of State for his consideration.
